From 7th to 10th May 2012 at the w European Faculty of Engineering the teaching workshop  „ Regional Economies in the 21st century” was organized for students of 2nd year of all EFE profiles.

Workshop activities were performed  jointly by Professor Neil Reid from University of Toledo, USA, and Prof.  Piotr Pachura from Chair of Enterprise Management, Management Faculty of  TUCz.

The invited lecturer Prof. Neil Reid, Ph.D. (Arizona State University) is Associate Professor of Geography and Planning and Director of the Urban Affairs Center at the University of Toledo Prof. N. Reid is an economic and industrial geographer. His research focuses on the topic of local economic development. In particular, he is interested in the theory and practice of cluster-based economic development strategies (CBEDS) and the role that such strategies can play in increasing the competitiveness of businesses, industries, and regions. He has published the results of his research in a number of leading journals, including Economic Development Quarterly, Economic Development Journal, Annals of Regional Science, Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences, , and Applied Geography.

The workskhop programme contained the subject areas specified in the curricula of „Micro and Macroeconomy”, which is a compulsory subject taught by Dr Piotr Tomski and Dr Marcin Sitek for  „Mechanical Engineering”, „Manufacturing Management”  and „Environmental Engineering” students. Among the novel elements of the workshop were the problems of  industrial location and regional economic development, which were treated  from both  theoretical and empirical perspective. The workshop contained 25 hours of lectures, summarized by Case Study tutorials.
